GENERAL DENTISTRY FOR CHILDREN
Familia Dental and the American Dental Association® recommend that you take your child to see a dentist as soon as his or her first tooth appears. This usually occurs from six months to one year. Three good reasons to take your child to bi-annual dental check-ups:
- Our dentists can identify potential problems and treat them immediately.
- Regular visits will ensure your child's oral health.
- Your child will more quickly become comfortable with dental visits.
In addition to a check-up, the office will perform x-rays to determine if teeth are growing in correctly. In many cases, teeth will erupt crowded, or crooked, but will straighten as the child's jaw grows and the rest of their teeth come in.
If your child's teeth do not straighten, your child could face problems with his or her bite, also known as malocclusion. A bite problem can cause issues with cleaning and eating. It can also affect your child's self esteem. Your child's dentist can make recommendations for treatment, or refer your child to a Familia Dental orthodontist.
When your child has permanent teeth, our dentists may suggest a preventative sealant procedure. A sealant protects the teeth from cavities. The sealant is a safe coating that is put on the chewing surface of the teeth, making the teeth less likely to trap food and germs.
All of the above will help your child in developing an excellent oral health regimen, and positively contribute to his or her overall health.
