How often should I see the dentist for a check-up and cleaning?

The American Dental Association recommends that you visit the dentist two times per year to achieve maximum oral health benefits.

I brush and floss everyday. Should I have my teeth cleaned?

A professional cleaning is the only way to remove hardened deposits of tartar from your teeth. A build up of bacteria containing tartar on your teeth can cause gum disease, the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. A cleaning will also smooth and polish the surface of your teeth so they are less likely to accumulate plaque (an invisible film made of bacteria which builds up on teeth each day). Finally, cleanings remove stains and mild discoloration which can improve the appearance of your teeth.

I can't make it to my appointment! What should I do!?

If for some unforeseen reason you cannot make your appointment, you should make sure to reschedule your appointment with Familia right away. Even regular check-ups and cleanings are important to your overall health as they play a vital role in preventing larger oral health issues. If you are being seen for more extensive procedures, rescheduling your appointment sooner can help to reduce the time that you experience any pain or discomfort.

Why is a dental check-up important for my overall health?

First and foremost, our dentists look for early signs of oral cancer and a myriad of other oral diseases during check ups. They will also look for signs of gum disease, cavities, eroded fillings, tooth fractures and oral infections. By performing a check-up this, we can start treatment before complications arise.
