Statement from Dr. Jacob Philip, Chief Clinical Officer

June 24, 2021

  • Preventive visits reduce worsening conditions and cost. Student dental examinations proactively reveal if a child has dental problems that need further attention, allowing parents to plan and schedule the work, and avoid a dental emergency that can be financially stressful.
  • Don’t wait — schedule now. Appointments will book up quickly, so schedule appointments sooner to beat the back-to-school rush.
  • Tooth decay leads to lower performance in school. Research shows that 25% of elementary-aged children have untreated tooth decay (cavities), which leads to absenteeism due to dental pain, poorer grades and lack of self-confidence.
  • NM Medicaid covers most services at 100%. Under Medicaid, most dental services are covered, including sedation, nitrous oxide, fluoride and sealants. If you are not insured today, we can assist in finding coverage and plans at zero cost to you.
  • Transportation resources are available. Medicaid patients may have to travel three to four hours to receive dental care due to a lack of providers in their area. We can help coordinate transportation or reimbursement for travel with your Medicaid provider to our clinic.

I encourage families to prioritize preventive oral health services for their children to help them stay healthy and ready to learn.

Let us help you and your family get started by scheduling your dental exam at Familia Dental. We have:
